2aa bodily injury or wound

bmental or emotional distress or anguish SUFFERING; getting past the hurt of a bitter divorce

Romans 8:28 –  And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

We all have experienced some type of hurt or pain, whether it was the difficult relationship or the ending of a relationship or marriage, betrayal from a friend, a family member that gossips about you , watching a loved one slowly pass away, the unexpected death of a loved one, unsuccessful business, failing out of school, a tough diagnosis, “church hurt”,  not enough money to pay your bills, losing custody of your children, home foreclosed, car repo’d, being looked over for the promotion, a sick child……… there’s no shortage of what can cause us pain, right? For some people, if it wasn’t for pain they wouldn’t feel anything at all because it appears that the bad outweighs the good. However, it does not!

But would you believe me if I told you that whatever the situation or situations that produced the pain HAD TO HURT because that was the assignment for that season?! The pain gave birth to a different you that pleasure could not do. Without that situation, you would not be who you are.

James 1:2-4,

2 “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything”

Understand the text, verse 2, “consider it pure joy” joy in it’s meaning is a feeling of great pleasure and happiness…… whenever (any moment, any hour, at any time, THIS IS A PROMISE THAT IT’S GOING TO HAPPEN), you face trials of many kinds – trials are difficulties/hardships (that includes everything) but accept that it’s a part of life.

Consider it great pleasure and happiness because at any moment you can face difficulties and hardships because it’s a part of life.

Verse 3, because you know (I’m going into this aware, already recognize) the testing of your faith (PROVING, TRUSTING in GOD)  produces perseverance (your ability to not give up, determination, tenacity)

Go into it aware that your trusting in God produces your ability to not give up.

Verse 4, Let perseverance finish – (do not try to get out of it early, let it complete what it started) so that you may be mature (so that you become well-developed and levelheaded), lacking nothing (not deficient in any way).

Do not try to get out of it early so that you become well-developed and levelheaded and not deficient in any way.

Let’s put it all together, “Consider it great pleasure and happiness because at any moment you can face difficulties and hardships because it’s a part of life. Go into it aware that your trusting in God produces your ability to not give up. Do not try to get out of it early so that you become well-developed and levelheaded and not deficient in any way.

Do you understand why it had to hurt?

  1. To Test and Teach You
  2. Mature You
  3. Strengthen You
  4. Increase Perseverance
  5. Keep You Close to God

Understand that person, situation, or issues were on assignment at that time in your life.

If you’re still holding any grudges, bitter, or “feel a certain kind of way”……. Then you missed the lesson you was supposed to learn from that experience, you didn’t allow it to mature you, you didn’t allow it to give you strength, or perseverance. Did it bring you closer to God or did you push away from Him because you were upset that He allowed it to happen?

Make note of this, if you failed to learn what that pain was trying to teach you…… it’s very likely that you’re going to repeat the lesson until you have matured beyond the place you were when it initially started. You can’t graduate and go to the higher grade until you have successful passed the test on the grade level that you entered on. Same applies here, until you have developed beyond the place you started from, you’re going to remain where you are. But once you have built up your faith, your endurance, your perseverance then you’ll start to see the test and trials are different. They’ll get “heavier”, and “appear” a little harder to carry.

Wanna know why?

1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation[a] has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted[b] beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted,[c] he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course of what others have faced. You just need to remember that God will never let you down; He’ll never let you be pushed past your limit; He’ll always be there to help you come through it.

And you thought you were going through it alone. ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!

That divorce, He allowed it

That sick child, He allowed it

That strained relationship w/ your mom or dad, He allowed it

Being fired from that job, He permitted it

Not being accepted into that program, He let it happen

He saw that you could bear it all, even when you felt like you were going to break but somehow you got strength from “somewhere.”

All those nights that you cried and no one knew what you were going through.

Or the emotional pain being so heavy that you start to feel it physically.

Or, the pain being so deep that only God could reach it.

It “had to hurt” because you’re being prepared to do great things. Without the pressing or the pressure, the diamond that you are won’t be revealed to the people that God has assigned to you. Those people won’t see that you can go through and GET THROUGH better than you went in.

IT HAD TO HURT because God knew it would produce the person He needed for what He has set before you!
